Self-Care is Not Selfish

Have you ever been in a situation where you felt guilty because you took time away from the world and all other responsibilities to take care of yourself? Have people around you accused you of being selfish? Well, it's time to break through the pessimism and shine a different light on this whole issue.


How is self-care selfless and not selfish?

When you are stressed, exhausted, depressed or generally in a compromised position, you will be incapable of helping others around you to the best you can be. In situations like this, taking time away for yourself to recharge and fix your situation eliminates the compromise. This, in turn, guarantees that your ability to help others is at its best when you decide to help.


Achieving the best version of yourself

Keeping in mind that helping others is something that should be done willingly and not forcefully, are you really your best self if every time you don't help people around you, you end up feeling guilty? It is important that you take the time to regenerate your energy and at the same time, take a step back to reevaluate your goals in life. Only by taking a more critical look at things can you evolve yourself into a better version of who you want to be. While helping is a noble thing, it should never be done at the expense of your personal well-being.


Healthy relationships

Relationships that only bring pain and heartache are not worth the effort. If people are always bringing negative energy around you or accusing you of being selfish because you weren't there for them when they needed you despite the circumstances, then they are part of the problem. These are people and relationships you should be wary of and avoid. As a matter of fact, your real friends should be the ones who offer support and assistance when you take the time to care for yourself.


Inspirational self-love

Taking care of yourself, in whatever way, is the best indication of self-love that there is. Generally, people pick up on such positive traits. Therefore, exuding confidence and self-love might inspire others to take the same path as you did to achieve the same end meaning that you could be helping people just by helping yourself.


Taking care of yourself is something that should be encouraged and not frowned upon. It has positive outcomes all through for both yourself and those around you who rely on you for help one way or another.
