Don't Overlook What Generation X Has to Offer in the Workplace

As employers, most overlook Gen Xers; they think that we do not have the talent required for company growth.

But they might need a rethink!

For example, Generation X stay longer in jobs they work in than most other generations. Generation X employees finished college in 1992 or thereabout, spend a minimum of 4 years on a job.

Imagine looking at a job candidate’s resume and seeing the date of birth as 1973. I am sure the next thing that comes to your mind is “the wrong candidate, dismiss!” However, looking at the Gen Xers more carefully, you will see that they have much more to offer. Here are some of their talents that aid in a company’s growth:

Gen Xers have best communication skills

The beautiful thing with Gen Xers is that they have excellent communication skills. This is because they have a perfect mixture of the digital and analog age. Hence, they can communicate perfectly with both categories of people. They have that soft skill of communication that lacks with millennial's and recent grads.

Gen Xers grew up talking with people, not gadgets, so interaction comes easy to them.

Generation Xers are Independent

Most Gen Xers were born to families with two income sources and rising divorce rate. Hence more of their mothers joined the workforce. This caused their children to be raised without their parents’ interruption. Hence, they became independent in their workplace and life generally.

Due to their independence, they like freedom and taking on tasks in the workplace.

Gen Xers bring Flexibility to the workplace

Gen-Xers were born and lost both their parents to work. As said earlier, they were the first set of people who had both parents in the workplace. Their parents were involved in rigid, non-flexible jobs. In the end, their parents lost their jobs because of the economic depression of the 1980s.

Due to this, they have an aversion to rigid work. They bring a lot of flexibility to the workplace.

Gen Xers always do good work; they let their work speak for them

These are one of the humblest staffs you can get. They always keep their heads down and let their work earn the thumbs up for them. They never try to act like as if they have done a great job; rather they maintain a look of satisfaction. This makes them great leaders in the workplace.

Gen Xers always aim for a balance between their work and their lives

These people know what it means to have work take the place of family, play and meaningful relationships. They were the first sets of victims of such an occurrence.

Hence, Generation X does work to live full and rich lives. They don’t live to work, like other previous generations.

Therefore, Gen Xers do their best to make their workplace as lively and fun as possible. They infuse humor and games into the things they do at the workplace.

Gen Xers are Skillful Technologically Adept

People of Generation X saw the shift from the manufacturing economy to the service-based economy. They have enjoyed the best of both worlds. They are the first generation to have computers while growing up. This makes technology an intricate part of their lives. They are very comfortable using smartphones, laptops and other technology in the workplace.

Gen Xers are the biggest revenue generators

Because they are technologically savvy and always aim to achieve work life balance, they are usually the ones that bring in the biggest revenue to the firms where they are employed.

It is obvious that Gen Xers have equal numbers of valuable years behind and ahead of them. Also, they have very important qualities that make a happy workplace and increase productivity. Gen X are the most engaged and committed employees anywhere they work. They are always focused while at work.

These above features are very important in a workplace, and the Gen X should not be dismissed just yet. They can teach and ensure this workplace culture is maintained in the work environment.

While people may consider job hopping to be advantageous, most employers do not agree with this. Regularly changing staff leads to stagnation in your company’s growth. The people you can trust to stay through and build your company with you are the Generation X.

These people have learned the ropes very well on running a company, and it is evident in how they manage affairs in the workplace. Many people agree that Gen Xers are the most effective managers.

Owing to their rarity, they are useful for almost any role available in a company, right from the CEO to the IT guy. They are your go to person to get the job done. What’s more? They also have achieved massive successes in nonprofit businesses.

We are in a fast-changing world. Gen Xers are known as starters of a lot of great inventions and developments. Some of them include consulting jobs, freelancing, workplace fun, work-life flexibility, contract jobs and so on. This was possible because they were in the right age and dispensation and right place. Because of their great work, there is the best choice to navigate the world, and most especially, navigate your workplace to great heights of success.

Therefore, this generation that has become more ignored in the workplace are the actual solution for growth in your workplace.
