Luck Has Nothing to Do With Fulfilling Your Dreams

Turning dreams into reality may sometime involve some luck. Some organizations discount the role of luck in strategic outcomes. We need to agree that indeed luck plays a role in our success, however, luck has nothing to do with success because it is never a strategy it just happens. If you rely on luck as a strategy, you will be living a fantasy. Dreams plus a learning agenda and commitment to that agenda is a commitment to a reality. A dream without action is as good as just a dream. Dreaming with a solid learning agenda drives our intention towards what is important to us.

Some individuals wake up in the morning, look at their life and hope something good will happen out of the blue. They live by hoping that they get lucky. A successful person on the other hand, says I am going to take control of things, I am going to make things happen, make a relationship work and so on. These group of people have a thought process that enables them to:

  • Clearly notice what is possible and what is not

  • See specifically what they want to achieve

  • To build upon good decisions along the way

  • Strategically think about tactics that will enable them to get things done

  • Value and respect people around them

All the successful people across the world are great dreamers. However, what differentiates them from the rest is the amount of perseverance they have towards their dreams, the amount of hard work they had in order to achieve their dreams and commitment they had towards their dreams. Luck may have played a role in their achievement of success, but luck was never part of the plan. To create an agenda that will help you achieve your dreams, you need the following:

Determine your goals and establish where you want to be in a few years’ time. For example, ask yourself, what do I need (goals), what should I do to accomplish my goals, are my goals achievable? The answers you get will become your learning agenda.

Assess the skills and knowledge you will need to achieve your dreams. Fortunately, certain goals do not require a new set of skills, while others will certainly require some training. If you will require new skills, ensure that you enroll in a program that will enable you to acquire them and if they need to be improved, work on improving them.

Use the best sources to acquire and improve your skills. For example, if it involves going back to school, enrolling in a training program, working with mentors or any other source, then do it.

In the end, not a single dream can be achieved without putting in the required efforts. Luck can help you but it should never be considered as a strategy or part of the plan.
