Is everyone guilty of procrastination or is it just you? The answer is Yes. Many who are successful today at some point were scared of taking action. So if you are yet to make that big move, don't condemn yourself just yet. You can succeed too if you learn to stop procrastinating. It is easy for people to make up excuses to postpone something they should be doing now even when it involves their future. They give excuses like ‘it's not the right time,’ ‘I'm not ready,’ or ‘I don't have what it takes to succeed.’ The truth is they are scared of taking action.
Shying away from doing things that appear difficult to you is the same as procrastinating. How is that? Procrastinators do not postpone an easy task. Instead, they postpone any task that seems terrifying and hard to accomplish like sticking to a diet, going to the gym or starting up a business. Bear in mind that procrastinators want to be successful, but their inability to make that big decision and take action hinders their progress. Ever heard the saying ‘nothing good comes easy’. Well if you are going to achieve your goals and become a better person, you will need to work hard. There many reasons why people procrastinate and foremost among them is perfectionism. You may probably not want to do something because you are scared of making mistakes and exposing your weaknesses. The fear of making mistakes can cause you to put off important tasks for another day. But what is the guarantee that you won't make any mistakes when you eventually decide to do it? Mistakes are meant to teach you how to do things the right way. The earlier you learn, the faster you grow. Another reason why people procrastinate is to avoid pain. Anything that causes shame, consume your time, make you vulnerable and restricts your freedom is often difficult to do. Since the human default response to a difficult task is procrastination, you come up with excuses why those things should be placed on hold. But you should ask yourself will I feel less pain if I take this action later? Of course not. Instead of avoiding difficult task, get on with it. The more it lingers, the more complicated it becomes. Laziness is also another reason why people procrastinate. Lazy people prefer the easy way out. They avoid doing anything they see as being difficult or unpleasant. Once they sense that a certain activity would cause them discomfort they put it off. You don't have to let procrastination kill your chances of achieving your goals and fulfilling your purpose. How can you beat procrastination? 1) Just Start It can be tough for procrastinators to get a project started. But if you can discipline yourself to stick to a schedule, you will be able to do something significant while you still have time. Start from somewhere, anywhere, and before long you would have gained enough momentum to complete the task. 2) Break Big Tasks Into Bits Okay, big tasks can be quite terrifying especially when they leave you no room to do those things that you enjoy. You can, however, make the work easier for yourself by breaking the task into smaller steps. Small projects are easy to perform, and they consume only a little time.
