A CLUTTERED MIND HAS MORE FEAR THAN A DECLUTTERED MIND

"We should start choosing our thoughts like we choose our clothes for the day.” —Farnoosh Brock

In our early school years, we were taught that matter is anything that has weight and occupy space; but what we weren't told is no two matters (physical object) can fill the same space at the same time. This fact is applicable in every area of our lives and activities. Just as you have to make a choice between two pieces of furniture to occupy that space in your living room, or choose which outfit you want to wear for the day, likewise you have to choose what occupies your mind. There is a need for you to make a choice because you can't have two things filling the same space at the same time.

Many thanks to the teachings in school, we have opted to declutter the physical objects that's piles up and robs us of our serenity and simplicity. But what about the clutter we cannot see? What about the clutter that occupies our mind and beclouds our vision every second of the day? Why can't we use what we have learnt to declutter our thoughts, which can benefit many thousand folds from a cleanup?

Do you even have any idea that negative thoughts and positive thoughts cannot fill the same space in our subconscious at the same time? Negative thoughts and positive thoughts cannot even co-exist together. So to say, the principle of choosing between two pieces of furniture and choosing the clothes to wear also applies to our thoughts. Need I say that you have to choose positive thoughts but how do you achieve this if you haven't decluttered your mind? A cluttered mind has more fear and attracts negative energy, hence negative thoughts.

Here is a step by step approach to declutter your mind:

  • Be prepared to exit your castle

Take a moment and imagine that your mind dwells in a giant castle with worries, thoughts, desires, anxieties, questions, memories, fears and yearnings. Now, imagine yourself moving out of the castle. It has been a good ride but your rent is up, and you need to move out. Then, imagine yourself moving into an open, clean, well-lit but tiny space.

  • Choose what you pack carefully

You are moving out, and you have to pack lightly. You are allowed to carry with you what you need. Ask yourself, do I need the worries, fears, negative thoughts and anxieties? Be loud, ask yourself, and make a decision.

  • Apply the rule to live fear free

If you have chosen to leave the fears, anxieties, and worries behind, congratulations, you have decluttered your mind. You are a hero, and I envy you. What you need to do now is to apply the rule consciously; always bear in mind that no two things can fill the same space at the same time. You can choose fear/uncertainty or courage; you can choose denial or acceptance. Choose positive!
