PUTTING YOURSELF FIRST TO REACH A GOAL


There's no gainsaying the fact that goals give you a sense of direction and motivates you to be the best you can be. People set goals for different reasons and depending on what you are looking to achieve your goals could be either short-term or long-term. The first step in setting goals is knowing what you want and where you want to be. However, it is one thing to set goals and another to achieve them. While both require self-discipline and energy, you can easily lose yourself if you do not handle things properly. When working towards reaching your goals, there is need to look after your mental and physical wellbeing. Yes, self-care is important when trying to reach your goals.

Many people believe that to achieve your goals, you should care less about yourself and more about your goals. In fact, this is one reason why some shy away from setting goals- the fear of losing themselves. Well, people set goals and strive to reach them because doing so results in greater happiness and self-fulfillment. When your goals come before your wellbeing, you will become stressed making it difficult for you to achieve anything and even if you do reach your goals you may end up very unhappy. Note that the purpose of setting and working towards realizing your goal would have been defeated if you do not find happiness afterward.

When it comes to goals, you must care enough about yourself before you can think of ways to reach them. If you fail to look after yourself, you may be creating obstacles that may hinder you from reaching your goals. Putting yourself first requires being proactive. When you are mentally and physically fit you will possess the strength, motivation, and intelligence to reach your goals. You do not have to wait until these vital ingredients run out before you boost your reserve. If you consistently put yourself first, you will always have what you need to perform at your optimum level.

Very often people think that putting yourself first means being selfish. On the contrary, putting yourself first means being happy with yourself. Since happiness is a positive feeling, it can move you to greater heights. Bear in mind that, that putting yourself first does not suggest losing your relationship with others just because you want to reach your goals. The truth is that you need people who care about to help you reach most of your goals. Not only can they provide you with the resources you need to achieve these goals they can also be a source of encouragement and motivation when the going gets tough. Caring for others can contribute to your happiness.

Reaching your goals is important but caring for yourself is even more critical. Nobody can set and reach your goals for you. Once you have determined who you want to be and the life you want to live, it is your responsibility to work towards making your dreams a reality. But as you pursue your goals, remember to make your well-being a priority.
