We all keep ourselves busy for production or distraction purposes. Most of the time, we find ourselves doing more than enough- more than the body can handle. It turns out like we want to do a little bit of everything. Knowing your priorities requires you to figure out the magnitude of how something means to you.
In fact, it is effortless to find out things to do just because of that which your heart is telling you. The contrast is very right, we tend to avoid the things we need to do until when we are entirely in need of them. Realistically, some things are more urgent and so crucial than others. We always tend to do things that we want to do first without considering the urgency and significance. One will ultimately pay the price, for instance, sleep, health and friendship as well. You can never give being busy as an excuse to being a bad friend!
Knowing your priorities is the essence of your life you get to see what you want and need. Life is a game of receiving and giving. As a result, sometimes you need to give up something so that you get another in return. Consequently, weigh how much that something means to you. You can learn to set priorities by doing the following:
Learn taking breaks, think about your life and what is essential.
Put down on paper those things that are truly important to you, things that will make you proud in future. Live in the now; the now is not the time for worries. Do not mix the urgent with the important.
Think of things you are doing every day and write them down.
For instance, waking up, having breakfast and going to work. Learn to highlight those things you do every day that is in line with your priorities.
Cut down on the urgent stuff
You will have to clear some critical activities, for example, changing your Whatsapp profile picture can wait until later or even the following day. Other times you need to delegate the primary activity. You can request someone to help you pay the bills or utilize the auto-pay services in your bank.
Put in your life the more important stuff.
Ensure you include in your schedule those things that match your priorities. Nonetheless, do not pressure yourself. For example, if there is no time for a walk in the evening, do not include it in your schedule.
Be patient and enjoy the journey. Knowing yourself, knowing your mission, knowing whom you are serving and knowing what you should be doing help one to make alignments with that which is vital to become true to yourself and explore more of your potential.
