A SHARP TONGUE CAN DO MORE HARM THAN GOOD

REMEMBER THE OLD SAYING ONCE THE WORDS ARE SAID YOU CANNOT TAKE THEM BACK.

As humans are born, we all come with a tongue and so, we are all confronted with every situation associated with the tongue. As we have been taught in health studies, the tongue is a sense organ that detects taste of different kinds that exist in the foods we eat. But the situation that is explained by having a sharp tongue here, portrays being quick to talk without taking to thoughts.

Let us try to understand the topic statement in parts. Looking deeply at the first part, the statement says that 'a sharp tongue can do more harm than good'. We have already established that having a sharp tongue relates to talking without thinking and considering the words we say, and this attribute is not commendable.

We have always been taught that words come out from the thoughts that go on in a man's mind, and I believe that we have all confirmed this truth through our experiences while thinking about the things we plan to speak at a presentation, and especially when we are having a personal time in our quiet and calm places.

I would like to portray a "sharp tongue" as used here to mean a cutting, piercing, destructive tongue. Now, using a sharp tongue against a person should make us to see the picture like using a cutting object against the person. This act will bring harm to the person physically and there can be very little good done in this act; just so, does using a sharp tongue against a person, destroys the person's spirit and there can be only very little good that can be done. So I hope we now know and understand that a sharp tongue can do more harm than good.

Now, moving on to understand the second part of the topic statement that says 'remember the old saying once the words are said you cannot take them back', we can see that it tends to advise us on how words really are. When a person who has a sharp tongue is quick to talk about something concerning someone else, the information begins to travel very fast whether it is a fact or false. The impression expressed by those words has the ability to mar people's personalities and integrity, or cause serious chaos in the society; and when the impression is made anywhere else by maybe some other 'sharp tongue' fellow who does not bother to check his own thoughts too, you find that this old saying is in fact, correct.

The resulting effects of this 'sharp tongue' are usually that people's emotions are seriously hurt, or that lives and property are destroyed; the person who said the words that ignited the fire will at this point, be in regrets but cannot take back the words. Then, what is left to be known is that "a sharp tongue can do more harm than good, remember the old saying once the words are said you cannot take them back"

Knowing this does not mean that a 'sharp tongue' cannot be curtailed. Here are some suggestions you can practice; always pause and reflect on the consequences of your words before you say them, also try taking a deep breath while accessing your mind to think about the possible responses you might get, and patiently think twice and speak once.
