Hormones and How Imbalance Has an Impact on Our Overall Health

Hormones are essential chemical substances produced in the body to regulate and control certain organs /cells. Hormones such as estrogens, insulin, leptin, growth hormone, cortisol, melatonin, progesterone, and testosterone play a significant role in influencing our metabolism, digestion, tissue function, respiration, growth, mood, reproduction, stress, sleep, temperature, movement, blood pressure, libido/fertility, and weight among other things. Generally, hormones dictate the state of our mental, physical and emotional health and wellness.

Hormonal imbalances can easily trigger so many health complications including cellulite, migraines, low libido, and weight gain among others. Common causes of hormonal imbalances include stress, poor diets, sedentary lifestyles, toxins, aging and excessive weight to name but a few.

Additionally, hormones imbalances can also take place automatically during menopause, perimenopause, and puberty.

How does hormone imbalance impact your life?

Abnormal sleep patterns

Having hormonal imbalance can affect your overall health and wellness in a million ways. Insomnia is one of the major negative effects of a declining production of estrogen, and progesterone hormones in women during early stages of menopause/perimenopause according to the National Sleep Foundation. Inability to fall asleep can be catastrophic to your mental, emotional and physical health.

Persistent migraines/headaches

Hormonal imbalances can trigger mild or mild migraines/headaches particularly in menstruating women. Numerous researchers have discovered that having inadequate progesterone and estrogen hormones make individuals susceptible to frequent migraines and headaches. Why? Well, because the two hormones are responsible for controlling and regulating certain pain sensation chemicals in the brain.

Unpredictable Mood swings

Having unhealthy hormones balances can easily trigger unpredictable mood swings in women according to the Women Imbalance Institute. Sadly, mood swings can lead to chronic stress, unhealthy social/work relationships, isolation and even depression in some people. Therefore, it is imperative to boost your hormonal balance by eradicating stress or other clutter through meditation, yoga, massage, healthy diets and regular exercising.

Excess sweating

Both male and females can experience abnormal sweating due to hormonal imbalances according to the Human Hormone Growth. Excessive sweating related to hormones imbalances mainly occur as a result of anxiety, nervousness, tension, and stress. All these are responsible for stimulating the sweat glands leading to profuse sweating in individuals.

Depression

Depression is a serious health complication. Some of its effects include heart-related ailments, high blood pressure, obesity and fatigue among others. Unfortunately, depression is common in among pre-menopausal women. On the other hand, men who have low testosterone are prone to all kind of mental health complications such as emotionalism, irritability, inner unrest, and great timidity, lack of interest, anxiety, poor concentration, memory failure, hypochondria and passive attitudes among others.

Weight gain

Hormonal imbalances can easily trigger obesity in both men and women. Males experiencing low testosterone are particularly prone to poor muscle mass, increased stress levels, and excessive body fat. Reluctantly, they experience weight gain due to elevated cortisol levels.

Other effects of hormonal imbalances in both men and women include:

  • Poor Libido

  • Erectile Dysfunction

  • Hair Loss

  • Memory loss

  • Breast Enlargement

  • Vaginal dryness

  • Increased body hair

  • Intense cravings

  • Acne

  • Constipation and

  • Inflamed joints

Conclusion

It is imperative to do everything in your power to keep your hormones balanced for a better overall health and wellness.
