Being Happy In Your Career Is Key to Overall Health Balance

When you wake up in the morning and prepare to leave for work, do you feel enthusiastic and energized ready to start another day at work? Or do you dread the idea of leaving your bed and facing another day in your work place? If you are not happy with your career and workplace, then you should consider changing your career because being happy on the job is more important than ever.

You might think that eight hours a day is minimal, but consider this, in your lifetime; you will spend approximately 90,000 hours at work or even more. Today’s lifestyle has made it hard for people to draw a line between home and work and in most cases, these two tend to mix. This means that if you are in a poor professional situation, you may not be happy at home and you will end up hating life altogether.

Here are direct reasons why being happy in your career is key to overall health balance:

Improved health

People who are not happy with their careers or their work environs suffer from stress. We all know how bad stress is for our overall health. Stress has a lot of side effects ranging from constant fatigue, body pain and difficulty to concentrate and even sleep, to more complex psychosocial problems like drug abuse and social withdrawal. Being unhappy at work or with your career can also affect your general appearance. You might end up gaining or losing weight drastically simply because of the stressful situation at your place of work. But when you are happy with what you do and your work environment, you will not experience constant headaches, stomach ulcers, binge eating and fatigue.

Increased productivity

When you are happy with your career and your working conditions, you will feel good, you will be able to focus, do your work effectively as required, and maintain a successful career path. Research points out that, happy employees are more productive and perform 20 percent better than those who are not happy. This, therefore, means that employers should provide a conducive environment for their employees to work better and ensure that they are happy.

This does not stop only at the work place but also applies at home. If you are happy at work, you will go home a happy person and you will do what is expected of you with the right attitude and mind. Your family will always be happy having you around.

Happier relationships

When you spend hours at work feeling unhappy, stressed, unfulfilled and imprisoned, you might end up experiencing problems with your social life. If you tend to vent your workplace frustrations on people who are around you, friends, family, loved ones and even colleagues will start avoiding you.

Life is too short to spend your time at a job that does not make you happy. Look for opportunities that give personal and professional growth.
