WHAT YOUR HEART SAYS VERSUS WHAT PEOPLE THINK

Sometimes in life, you will experience being in the minority. This experience occurs when your thoughts or opinions are not supported by the people around you. It is usually sad and can be depressing especially when it is a life-changing decision you are about to make. For instance, if you decide to leave your comfort zone because it is no longer fulfilling or challenging, you may be met with disapproval from your friends and family. This objection may come because they see you as being comfortable or having what it takes to lead a responsible life. They do not understand the turmoil to achieve more or the feeling of being caged, which has prompted you to make a change in your lifestyle.

You should understand that even if it doesn't look like it, they mean well. This criticism may be because from experience you have not shown progress in that direction. It may also be because your decision would take you through some risky venture or unpredictable end.

This opposition, however, should not discourage you from pursuing your passion, as chasing your dreams will give you self-satisfaction and fulfillment. Unfortunately, we live in a world where only about 1% of the population go about pursuing their dreams. The success stories from those who followed their passion have encouraged many people in this generation to do same.

How to Listen to Your Heart

Finding something you love so much and having the courage to pursue it is key to a happy life. This premise is true whether it is a career choice or relationships. For some, finding their passion is very easy. These know what they love doing from the very beginning. Putting them anywhere else is going to suffocate them. For others, it is not so easy for them to identify their passion. This group has to keep trying new things till they find that stuff they enjoy doing.

Now, your passion isn't necessarily something easy; it is more like "something worth doing." To prove this point, you see that there are people that are passionate about encountering challenges. Every new task gets them excited.

The most important thing to know about the heart is that it will never mislead you to getting satisfaction. You may follow your heart and not end up successful in the conventional sense, but you will always feel fulfilled and satisfied.

How to Deal with Peoples Opinion

It is sad that often when you need encouragement and support, you may not find it. This situation should not discourage you. Instead, it should be used to fuel your passion. Here are some tips to help you deal with what people make of your idea or decision.

  1. Listen carefully to what they have to say even when it is disheartening.

  2. Consider carefully the points they have made, and see what you can get from it.

  3. Having evaluated their thoughts, determine if they have raised valid concerns which may cost you a lot and which you have no immediate solution for.

  4. Think about the things you could do to solve the problems pointed out.

  5. If they keep hassling you about your decision, you may have to tell them decisively that you have heard their concerns, but you are still going on with your decision.

  6. Ensure that you take everything that has been said on your journey and put it to good work. When you become successful, these same people will congratulate you.
